Responsibilities
Phlebotomists perform blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for patients of all ages. The phlebotomist prepares all collected specimens for testing and analysis, and accurately documents patient information. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Obtain blood specimens and collect non-blood specimens such as urine, sputum, and throat swabs for laboratory testing
- Maintain patient and specimen information logs accurately and store specimen samples according to required temperature
- Check the test requisition or computer label to assure correctness and completeness prior to collecting samples and follow all safety, infection control, and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen guidelines
