Ohio Has Joined the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)

January 18, 2023

Good news – if you have your compact license, you can now work in Ohio! Ohio has officially joined the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Ohio has officially become part of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) as of January 1, 2023, meaning Ohio residents can apply for a multistate license and nurses residing in other states who hold a multistate license will be able to begin practicing in Ohio.

Licensure requirements are uniform across the 36 NLC states, allowing nurses to provide care throughout the country.

The continued expansion of the NLC is important because it increases access to healthcare, reduces the cost to insurance companies, hospitals, and individual patients, as well as supports efficient healthcare delivery. The NLC also enables nurses to provide telehealth nursing services to patients located in other NLC jurisdictions without having to obtain additional licenses.
