Travel nursing offers many opportunities for adventure. One of those opportunities is a simple day trip! No matter where you are on assignment, there is likely a location nearby that is worth traveling to and planning the perfect day trip for it.
Whether you’re heading to the beach, going on a hike, or spending the day in a big city, day trips are a great way to incorporate some lighthearted fun into your travel nursing assignment.
We’ve created a list of tips for planning the perfect day trip. Read on to learn more!
As you know, everything costs money – from food to entertainment to mileage. How much you’re willing to spend will help shape your plans. Decide how much you’re willing to spend during your trip before organizing your day.
Look into ways to save money on your activities! Many museums, theaters, or group tours offer discounts that you can take advantage of to pack more activities into your trip.
Consider creating a schedule based on a central theme. Maybe you want to make stops along a scenic highway, explore a hip neighborhood, or enjoy a specific aspect of the local culture?
According to Roadtrippers, “whatever the theme, stick to one or two to avoid a watered-down itinerary…once you’ve got your themes figured out, start making lists of all the top locales that align with them.”
Since you only have one day, it’s important to create an itinerary. Research your destination and consider the best way to organize your schedule. Is there a great restaurant you’d like to try? Is there traffic along your driving route? What is the weather forecast?
Planning ahead will help you make the most of your time and provide peace of mind.
It’d be a shame for your day trip to be interrupted by preventable problems with your car. Before you head out, bring your vehicle to a mechanic for a basic checkup. Make sure your breaks, tires, windshield wipers, and fluid levels are in good shape. Inflate your spare tire and pack tools and accessories like jumper cables, a tire jack, and a lug wrench to make sure you’re prepared.
If you don’t have a vehicle, you can always rent a car! Car rental companies like Enterprise, Avis, and Hertz have locations across the country and offer affordable rates.
Make a checklist and pack the essentials for your trip. Here are some items to consider:
The items above are practical for almost any day trip and should come in handy. For a more comprehensive list, check out this article by Lifehacker.
It’s a great idea to have a plan, but remember to be flexible. Keep a positive outlook and take advantage of life’s surprises.
