Louisville is Kentucky’s largest city, home to the legendary Kentucky Derby, bourbon whiskey, and Muhammad Ali. Its beautiful scenery, Southern charm, and excellent selection of entertainment make it a great place to visit during the Fall.

Read on for our list of five ways to enjoy an autumn travel nursing adventure in Louisville!

Take a Walk in Old Louisville

Did you know that Louisville has one of the largest collections of Victorian homes in the nation? It’s true! Old Louisville is a historic neighborhood that was established in the 1800s that is also registered as a National Preservation District.

Enjoy the autumn weather and Victorian architecture on a 60-minute Walking Tour created by the Old Louisville Neighborhood Council. Additionally, check out Central Park, a sixteen-acre park known for its scenic walkways and greenery.

Visit Museum Row on Main Street

Louisville is home to many centers of art, culture, and history. In fact, many of them are located on a five-block span in Downtown known as Museum Row.

The Frazier Museum, which focuses on the history of Kentucky, is a great place to start. The Muhammad Ali Center is a multicultural center with a museum “dedicated to the life and legacy of Muhammad Ali." The Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory celebrates the role of the legendary Louisville Slugger baseball bat. Lastly, The Kentucky Science Center is the largest science museum in the state. The museum is great for the entire family, offering three floors of interactive science exhibits and a four-floor movie screen.

Explore the Bourbon Trail

Kentucky is the birthplace of bourbon whiskey, and Louisville might be the best place to drink and learn about it. The Kentucky Bourbon Trail is a series of world-famous bourbon distilleries located in Louisville and dispersed throughout rural Kentucky. This includes well-known labels like Maker’s Mark, Jim Beam, Wild Turkey, Evan Williams, Four Roses, Bulleit, and much more.

If you enjoy whiskey, spending the day sipping bourbon and visiting the beautiful locations and highly-curated experiences of these establishments is a perfect Fall activity. Check out the Bourbon Trail’s official website to plan your itinerary!

Enjoy the Great Outdoors

Louisville is full of beautiful parks and green spaces where you can soak in the autumn weather and scenery.

The Parklands of Floyd’s Fork are four parks totaling almost 4,000 acres, described by Kentucky Tourism as “one of the largest and most ambitious metropolitan park projects in the nation.” This gorgeous area offers miles of winding trails, waterways, and forests. Enjoy the fresh autumn air, fishing lakes, kayaking, hiking, biking, and more. If you’re looking for a fun place for the kids, check out the Marshall Playground and Sprayground in Beckley Creek Park.

Waterfront Park is an 85-acre urban park located on the banks of the Ohio River, providing stunning views of the river as well as the Louisville skyline. The park has over 2 million visitors per year, as it is a prime location for celebrations like the Fourth of July and many festivals. Check out Waterfront Park to lounge in its spacious green fields, take a relaxing walk, play sports, see live music, and much more.
