February 11, 2022

Is warm winter calling your name? Miami, Florida is the newest opportunity available for Gifted nurses, and this city is full of energy and excitement.  With miles of beaches and an average temperature over 70 degrees, it’s easy to understand why they call it the Magic City.

In Miami, you can expand your art knowledge, experience nightlife, explore many vibrant neighborhoods, and ease your soul in the sun. Here is everything to do on your next travel nursing adventure!

Expand Your Art Knowledge

Art Deco is a style of architecture that first appeared in France before World War I, but is still on full display in the Art Deco Historic District of Miami. Famous architects Henry Hohauser and Lawrence Murray Dixon were inspired by popular European designs and brought them to Miami with their own signature American touch. These buildings are masterpieces all on their own and will leave you in awe as you explore the Art Deco Historic District on a day off.

Miami also has some incredible museums that make the perfect daytime adventure. Check out the Perez Art Museum Miami, Wynwood Walls, and Lowe Art Museum while on assignment in Miami to appreciate art throughout history.

The Perez Art Museum is full of international modern and contemporary art from the 20th and 21st centuries. The Wynwood Walls is an outdoor museum filled with unique urban graffiti, with more than 35 hand-sprayed murals and street art galleries. The Lowe Art Museum is a visual arts museum rich in history as it was the first museum in South Florida, opening in 1950. It is located in a suburb just outside the city and operated by the University of Miami.

Experience Night Life

Night Life is thriving in Miami! If you are a night owl that loves to dance the night away, this world-class nightlife destination is the city for you. Miami has something to suit everyone’s style; you can explore all the hot spots and find what you love.

Set an entire night aside to experience Mango’s Tropical Café. This famous South Beach spot is known for its “SOBE” style entertainment with live music, performances, five-star cuisine and more. You will salsa dance the night away!

Wynwood, Miami’s creative and cultural district, is the perfect spot for a casual cocktail. You will be surrounded by street murals and the city’s art while relaxing in a chill vibe. The Dirty Rabbit Wynwood is raved about by tourists for its relaxing ambiance.

Head downtown and check out the beautiful skyline at 1 Hotel South Beach, an oceanfront rooftop bar that has poolside cabanas during the day and beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean at night. This is the place to live out your Miami dreams with fancy drinks and fresh sushi.

Explore Little Havana

Dig into the Cuban culture of Miami and head to Little Havana, the heart of Miami’s Cuban population. The neighborhood is full of Cuban cuisine, vibrant music venues, and art galleries. Be sure to visit Maximo Gomez Park, known as Domino Park, while in Little Havana. The 40-year-old tradition of competitive dominos emulates authentic Latin culture and is truly incredible to experience. Locals can be found playing at any time of the day and love to have an audience!

While in Little Havana, Cuban cuisine will be calling your name. Calle Ocho (Southwest 8th Street) in Little Havana is a street full of world-famous Cuban cuisine restaurants. La Carreta is known for its croquetas, ham coated in breadcrumbs, and authentic vaca frita, a fried shredded steak. For a modern spin on the Cuban sandwich, check out Sanguich De Miami. From Cuban coffee, empanadas, Cuban sandwiches, and more, you need to try every place on Calle Ocho!

Ease Your Soul in the Sun

Miami has more than a dozen beaches stretching over 35 miles long, and spending a day in the sun is a great way to relax in between shifts. What makes these beaches so special is that the Atlantic Ocean merges with the Caribbean Sea along Miami’s coast, creating clear blue water and soft sand. You will want to set aside multiple days to fully experience all that the beaches have to offer in Miami.

Have a beach day at South Point Park, the southernmost tip of South Beach, known for its 360-degree ocean views and art sculptures. This beautiful area is full of life with cruise ships, a water park, and even a dog park! Bring a book and enjoy the view.

If fishing is on your bucket list, plan a day at South Pointe Park Pier. You can fish off the pier or the rocks that run alongside the deep water. This is completely free, you just need to bring your equipment and patience for your first catch.

Just west of Miami, you can explore the Everglades with an airboat ride to see alligators! You can only find alligators in a few regions in the US, so don't miss this unforgettable experience. The everglades are just 30 minutes away from the city, making them the perfect day-off adventure.

When you have a few days away from the hospital, plan an epic trip to Key West. Driving through the Florida Keys is an adventure itself, full of miles and miles of ocean views. Queue up your favorite playlist and enjoy the ride.
