Destination Spotlight: New Jersey

New Jersey is known as the Garden State and Gifted Healthcare has travel and local RN opportunities across the state for you. You can embark on your next assignment and explore a destination that has East Coast excitement, natural beauty, and a unique cultural tapestry.

In this city-by-city guide, we’ll delve into the unique experiences that each New Jersey city has to offer, ensuring you live your assignment up to the fullest.

Jersey City

Consider this the urban oasis across the river. It is nestled just across the Hudson River from Manhattan and welcomes you with stunning skyline views. As a travel nurse, you’ll find a perfect blend of urban excitement and community charm. The neighborhoods are historic, and you can indulge in diverse culinary delights.

The downtown area is a dynamic mix of global cuisines, including Italian, Indian, Mexican, and more. Additionally, local restaurants often showcase Jersey City’s commitment to farm-to-table sustainable dining, incorporating fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Whether you’re exploring historic neighborhoods or trendy districts, Jersey City’s food scene is going to be a treat.

The only thing better than good food is good food with a view. While in Jersey City, make sure to find a waterfront dining experience to soak in the breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline. The J Owen Grundy Park is a great spot with a view to unwind after a long work week. The riverfront pier has game tables and a pavilion that hosts festivals and shows.

Hoboken

Hoboken is just next door to Jersey City and is known for its charming atmosphere. The city is a haven for travel nurses seeking a blend of relaxation and entertainment. The city offers picturesque views of the Manhattan skyline, a vibrant nightlife, and yummy food. After a rewarding shift, take a stroll along the waterfront to discover local art galleries.

The city is also home to TLC’s Cake Boss! Carlo’s Bake Shop became a nationwide phenomenon when its TV show became a hit, but the bakery has always been popular among Hoboken residents. If you are dying to try some of the popular treats, get there early because the line starts to wrap a few blocks deep.

Newark

Newark is New Jersey’s largest city and its revitalized downtown showcases its history with some modernity. As a travel nurse, you’ll discover a city rich in cultural institutions and a thriving arts scene. After two years of restoring the exterior and interior architecture, the Ballantine House Museum has reopened. This 27-room mansion was built in 1885 and is used to showcase contemporary art, historical objects, and interactive experiences that reflect the Newark community. It is a must-visit museum!

Newark is also home to diverse neighborhoods that offer a taste of international cuisine. The Ironbound District is one of the most popular neighborhoods and is known for its Portuguese and Spanish influences. The neighborhood is lined with restaurants, cafes, and bakeries that transport visitors. In Ironbound, you can savor traditional dishes such as bacalhau (salted codfish), paella, and delicious pastries. One highly recommended restaurant in this neighborhood is Fornos of Spain. This establishment has been a staple in the Ironbound District, offering an authentic Spanish dining experience.

Princeton

Escape to the serene town of Princeton, where academia meets elegance. Home to the prestigious Princeton University, this city offers travel nurses a peaceful retreat surrounded by historic charm. Explore the university’s beautiful campus, visit world-class museums, and unwind in the lush greenery of Mercer County Park.

Princeton provides a unique blend of intellectual stimulation and natural beauty, making it a perfect peaceful escape. There is something for every travel nurse at Mercer County Park. From dog parks to tennis courts, and camping grounds, you get to pick your adventure. It even has a couple historic museums right next door so make an entire weekend out of your visit.

Atlantic City

Atlantic City, located on the Atlantic coast in New Jersey, is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. With its iconic boardwalk, casinos, and beachfront attractions, there’s something for every travel nurse in this vibrant seaside city.

One of the benefits of working as a travel nurse in Atlantic City is the opportunity to experience all that the city has to offer. When you’re not working, you can spend your free time exploring the boardwalk, trying your luck at the casinos, or enjoying the beach. There are also plenty of restaurants, shops, and entertainment options to choose from, so you’ll never be bored during your time off.

Camden

Situated along the Delaware River, Camden invites travel nurses to explore its waterfront views. Visit the Adventure Aquarium for animal attractions and more. They even host an underwater Christmas special around the holiday season.

After the aquarium, stroll along the waterfront promenade for a calming 1.2-mile walk.  You’ll see the Ben Franklin Bridge and end at The Battleship New Jersey. The trail also has views of the Philadelphia city skyline since it is so close to Camden. You can explore the best of both cities while on assignment.
